Qualifying rounds

The tournament starts with qualifying rounds, in which clubs from different European leagues compete to qualify for the main tournament through three preliminary rounds and a play-off round. As with the Champions League, these clubs are determined by the countries' position in the UEFA coefficient rankings; this position determines which teams are entitled to participate in this prestigious tournament and at what time they enter. Clubs eliminated in the earlier rounds of the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League also have the opportunity to enter the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Conference League.

Main tournament

After the qualification rounds, the main tournament of the UEFA Conference League begins. The main tournament consists of a group stage followed by knockout rounds. The group stage consists of the 22 winners of the play-off round + 10 losers from the Europa League play-off round. These 32 teams are divided into eight groups with four teams each. The best teams from each group and some best number three qualify for the knockout rounds.

Knockout rounds

The group stage is followed by the knockout rounds, consisting of the sixteenth finals, eighth finals, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The format of these rounds is similar to that of other UEFA competitions, with teams playing against each other over two matches (home and away), with total goals scored as the deciding factor in the event of a tie.

Final

The UEFA Conference League final is played in a different European city each year, at a neutral venue. In 2023/24, this will be the Agia Sofia Stadium in Athens. The two remaining teams will compete in the final in just one match for the title of UEFA Conference League champion.

A total of 141 matches will be played over 15 match days. The winner of the UEFA Europa Conference League will receive a starting ticket for the following UEFA Europa League season.
