The Bosuilstadion
The Bosuilstadion is the home ground of the Belgium football club Royal Antwerp. The stadium is located in the district of Deurne in Antwerp and is more commonly known as ‘Den Bosuil’. International matches tensions used to run high in the past, which resulted in the creation of another nickname: The Hell of Deurne-North.
The history of the Bosuilstadion
Royal Antwerp had to switch ‘stadiums’ several times, before settling in the Bosuilstadion. They started playing in the Wilrycksche Plein, followed by a field they rented where they were soon forced to leave, because of the increasing erection of buildings in this neighbourhood. Royal Antwerp conquered three more areas after this. They finally settled at the Bosuil Stadium in 1923. There were several attempts to build a new stadium for the club, but all these attempts failed, and they still play in Den Bosuil. They might not play in a new stadium, but their Bosuil Stadium got renovated and expanded. The stadium has reached a capacity of 16,144.

How to visit the Bosuilstadion
From the historical centre of Antwerp, it only takes thirty minutes to travel to the Bosuilstadion through public transportation. Metro five departs from Antwerpen Groenplaats Metro Station to Deurne Antwerp Stadion. Disembark the metro at this station and walk to the stadium. This is the only way to travel to the stadium from Antwerp’s city centre.
